How to get to Aarhus

Aarhus is situated on the Jutlandic peninsula in Northern Europe, which means you can go by car or train from any of the North European countries.

 

By air:

There are flights from several destinations throughout the world to four major airports in Denmark. If you arrive in Copenhagen Airport – the largest in Scandinavia – you can either choose to fly on to Billund Airport, Aalborg Airport or Aarhus Airport, or you can travel by train or rent a car.

Aarhus Airport - AAR - http://www.aarhuslufthavn.dk/
Aarhus Airport is located at Tirstrup 40 km north-east of Aarhus. The travel time  from Aarhus Airport to the city of Aarhus is approx. 50 minutes.
There is an airport shuttle bus to Aarhus from Aarhus Airport. Tickets are sold on the bus. Most foreign currencies and credit cards are accepted. One-way fare costs DKK 115 (February 2016). There are predefined stops along the route, final stop is at the railway station in the city centre (Aarhus Central Station/Aarhus Hovedbanegård).
You can rent a car at the airport. 

Transportation of poles for pole vault will be available, for free, from Aarhus Airport (Tirstrup) once a day during the championships. 

Billund Airport - BLL - http://www.bll.dk/
Billund Airport is located 100 km south of Aarhus. The travel time from Billund to Aarhus is approx. 1 hour and 15 minutes.
There is an airport shuttle bus to Aarhus from Billund Airport, called RUTE 912X. Tickets are sold on the bus. One-way fare costs DKK 140 (February 2016). The bus stops at the railway station in the city centre of Aarhus (Aarhus Central Station/Aarhus Hovedbanegård), final stop is at the bus station in Aarhus (Rutebilstationen).
You can rent a car at the airport. Drive in the direction of Horsens for the first 43 km (road 30) until you see the first signs for Aarhus when entering the highway (E45). 

Aalborg Airport - AAL - http://www.aal.dk/
Aalborg Airport is located 125 km north of Aarhus. The travel time from Aalborg to Aarhus is approx. 1 hour and 20 minutes.
You can rent a car at the airport.
It is also possible to take a direct train in the city centre of Aalborg (Aalborg Banegård) to Aarhus. 

Copenhagen Airport - CPH - http://www.cph.dk/
Copenhagen Airport is located at Kastrup and is Scandinavia’s biggest airport with about 65 airlines operating from Copenhagen Airport and with more than 20 million passengers every year. If you land at Copenhagen Airport, you may take the train directly from the airport to Aarhus, and after that a bus/taxi.

 

By train:

Nearest station: Aarhus Central Station

You can reserve a seat in the "quite zone" and benefit from efficient working hours. Seat reservation is strongly recommended during daytime (early morning to 7 p.m.).

 

By car:

Aarhus is close to the E45 motorway.

From Copenhagen/Sweden: Take E20 towards Jutland (cross Sealand and Fuen). Change onto E45 and follow it North towards Aarhus

From Germany/Southern Europe: Locate E45, and follow it North to Aarhus

 

By ferry and car:

From Hirtshals (Larvik/Stavanger/Bergen/Oslo/Kristiansand)

Sail to Hirtshals. Follow E39 towards Aalborg. Change onto E45 towards Aarhus

From Frederikshavn (Goteborg)
Book tickets through Stena Line - click here

Sail to Frederikshavn. Follow E45 towards Aalborg. Continue on E45 towards Aarhus

From Grenaa (Varberg)

Sail to Grenaa. Follow Route 15 to Aarhus.

Local Transportation

Everything in Aarhus, no matter if it is hotels, stadiums, main sights or restaurants, is within comfortable travelling distance of each other. Therefore, the city encourages visitors to use environmentally friendly city bicycles during their stay - free of charge.
